The Big Pineapple is a Sunshine Coast icon that has a special place in many people’s childhood memories. Place Design Group was engaged to develop a site wide vision and master plan that would drive the rejuvenation of the Big Pineapple as a contemporary tourism destination.

The master plan explored an extensive range of uses that could take advantage of the site’s unique setting and rich history. Going beyond conventional themed attractions, the master plan established a series of defined precincts for major events, food tourism, production and markets as well as a variety of accommodation formats. This expansion in the overall offering required a carefully developed planning strategy that could support the master plan delivery.
