A recent and well-publicised example of Place Design Group’s activation and media capabilities was our design and delivery of ‘Future Street’ – the centrepiece of a campaign showcasing what our cities and streetscapes will look like in the coming decades. Sydney’s Alfred Street near Circular Quay was transformed into a street of the future as central feature of the Australian Institute of Landscape Architecture 2017 International Festival, with thousands of Sydneysiders visiting the space during the activation.

a branding strategy applied to both digital and signage collateral that is contemporary and versatile
Place Design Group conceptualised and created the
‘Future Street’ brand and associated collateral, and led the design and build to deliver a real-life experience of a street from the future. This 50-metre long street included 30 mature trees, 100 tonnes of soil and numerous technologies from Tesla cars, autonomous shuttles to smart poles. The power of Future Street was that it took the community on a journey, not just telling visitors about the streets of the future, but creating an experience to generate greater understanding and message amplification.
Our Strategic Communication Team developed a brand strategy which gave identity to the vision of Future Street, and expanded across the physical space in the form of signage and graphic treatments. Signage announced arrival into Future Street, and allowed users to gain a more in-depth insight into the thinking behind the design.
